Since its inception in 1966 Anustup is being edited by Anil Acharya.
He initiated the publication of this quarterly when he was studying English Honours in Kolkata.
Anil Acharya wrote poetry and short stories as well as thought- provoking articles in both Bengali and English since those early days. After completing his Masters in English literature, he started teaching at Serampore College and became the Reader and Course Coordinator of Communicative English there.
In the meantime he dabbled in other creative medium like film making, too!
Assisting the renowned film maker Paul Cox, who became a close personal friend, during the making of his documentary Calcutta-70as the Assistant Director and the feature film Island and in his latest film Salvation are the high points of this aspect of Anil Acharya’s multifaceted personality.
His organizational acumen found expression through his achievement of giving a truly International look to the Calcutta Book fair when he was the Honorary General Secretary of the Publishers and Booksellers’ Guild from 1997 to 1999. The full credit of bringing on stage such intellectual giants as Jacques Derrida and Richard Dawkins as the main speaker and inaugurator of the Book Fair goes solely to him.
He has also delivered lectures to intellectual audiences in France, U.S.A., Australia, England and Bangladesh among other countries.
He is now busy with his literary pursuits-writing articles, poetry, short stories and a novel and simultaneously he keeps busy editing Anustup and the English Translation periodical, Harvest.
Two translation volumes edited by him namely, Bengali Short Stories and Short stories by Women Writers of Bengal have been published. Other such volumes are in the pipe line.
